Burden or a Blessing?

Recently, I’ve been overwhelmed by all the blessings in my life. And not always in a good way. I have everything I’ve wanted, and at times, I’m taken over by the seemingly insurmountable list of things to do. In these moments, I stop seeing my life as a blessing, and see it as a burden instead. It doesn’t feel very good.

Like motherhood for example. There are moments of utter joy and moments of overwhelm, both of which are normal, acceptable and all of which need to be felt to their fullest. That being said, and like I always say, staying in the overwhelm or lower energy emotions for too long simply doesn’t feel good. That’s when you need to reach for your “blessing” glasses, and see things in a different light. A softer, more appreciative “this is life in all its beauty” light.

There are countless examples of blessings in my life, such as the renovations we’re doing for our new home, entrepreneurship and family, that in any moment I can choose to see as a burden or a blessing.

For you it might be being single, having no children, a stable income, living in your ideal home - really anything - from one perspective, these things can all be great, and from another they can feel like a burden.

Regardless of what we have or don’t have, at some point or another, we almost always end up feeling weighed down by the very things we yearned for. So how do we change that?

By acknowledging that:

  • many of these are things you wanted at one time (and chose!)

  • they are symbols of abundance (money, love, etc)

  • you can always make a new choice that empowers you (for me, that was daycare 4 days a week)

  • if you need help, you can ask for it

  • this is a journey - and one that you can enjoy

  • it’s a season that likely won’t last forever

  • you can put on your “blessing” lenses at any time (think rose coloured glasses, but more like a shape and colour you freaking love)

  • ...you’ll never get it “done” and you will leave this Earth one day with bills you didn’t pay, people you didn’t call and projects you never saw to fruition. And that’s ok.

You take your attitude wherever you go. So instead of waiting for something to happen before you start feeling better, learn to feel better now, so that when those things/people/situations do arrive, you’re able to take them all in, and not take them for granted - at least not for long :) You can choose if something is a burden or a blessing, simply by the lens you choose to see from.

Peace & love,
