Are You Invested in Complaining?

Your life is dynamic, with many moving pieces; some of which are totally great and others which could use some fine tuning. If you’re being honest which do you talk about most, what’s going well in your life - or what isn’t? When it comes to money, love, opportunities, health, your body, do you give thanks for what’s fabulous, or do you jump to pointing out what’s missing?

Is appreciation and gratitude the name of your game, or are you invested in complaining?

I’ve said this more times than you probably want to hear; what you focus on and what you feed grows. If you’re more invested in complaining than you are in counting and pointing out your blessings, you’re feeding into your problems. You’re stuck in the energy of the problem, and can’t tune into the solution.

Complaining is a waste of time and energy - it’s also super unpleasant and only attractive to those who love to complain, too. So if you find yourself surrounded by a bunch of naysayers, you may want to take a look at your own dialogue. Ask yourself, which camp would you classify yourself in? The one that appreciates all the beauty and blessings in your life (as few or as many as they might be), or the one who’s quick to point out what isn’t so great? It’s possible that you may not have noticed up until now that you’re invested in complaining. If that’s the case, it’s not too late.

What you can do instead:

  • Meditate first thing upon waking - there’s a small window when you first wake up where you don’t actively remember all the stuff that’s “going wrong” in your life. Use this window to stay in clear thoughts.

  • Pick up a journal that’s dedicated to your appreciation. Every morning after your meditation, write about what you appreciate; your warm bed, the sun shining, the roof over your head, the coffee that’s awaiting you, the chance to live another day.

  • Be mindful of what you talk about with others. As tempting as it may be to talk about all the doom and gloom, choose to shift your focus towards something that is positive. And if you can’t get there that day, then keep it general. Your greatest work here is to stay off the topic of negative subjects, lack and all the things you’d like to see improve.

As you move towards more positive subjects, you will see more examples of positivity around you and become more attractive to positive opportunities. It’s up to you where you’d rather invest your time, energy and words - in the bad sh*t that keeps you feeling negative, or in the beauty of even the simplest moments that pull you further in the direction of greatness. Take your pick.

Peace, love and investing in appreciation,

Diana
