Are Women More Triggered in Relationships Than Men?

White dog with red collar

I may lose some followers for this one…

Ladies I’ve got to tell you that after years of doing this work, even working with couples, the data shows that women tend to be more often triggered in their relationships than men.

And it makes me wonder…(as I am still hypothesizing here).

Is this reaction coming from the limbic cortex (our lizard brain)’s fight response? And is this response more easily triggered in women because of our inherent need to protect ourselves against the big bad men?

I mean in some ways, we are physically smaller than men as a whole.

And in some ways, this is also some bullshit that we’ve adopted as truth.

It makes me think of small dog syndrome.

You know how the little chihuahua barks so much that its little body keeps bouncing around? While the great Dane is stoically walking by without a care in the world?

Is this how we’ve been showing up, ladies?

Like the small barking chihuahuas so scared of being hurt or taken for granted?

Triggered and on the lookout for the next threat? i.e., the man who will cheat, lie, or disappoint us somehow.

IF this is true, it points to an inherent feeling of not being safe.

And IF this is true, the solution is to create that foundation, that inner sense of safety within ourselves.

→ trusting our decisions

→ making decisions more swiftly

→ reminding ourselves that we are safe & worthy

I wonder…

If this became our new way of feeling, how would dating & relationships change?

Something for us all to ponder.
